Cena first started training to become a wrestler in 2000 at the Califoria-based Ultimate Pro Wrestler (UPW).
where he created the character The Prototype. This period of his career was documented in the Discovery Chanel Program Wrestling School.
After UPW, he was signed to a World Wrestling Pederation developmental contract
and assigned to "farm territory" Ohio Valley Wrestler (OVW).
